Useful phrases, sentences and formats for Essays

These are the useful sentences that I collected in my 7 months of preparation from many books, websites and my two English classes with British Council. They are for IELTS essays which have a few types. But for PTE, most of the essays are just opinion essays. So you can only refer to Opinion Essays part hat is No 1.

Use these sentences and you will definately get written discourse minimum 80. And since the vocabulary and grammer of these sentences are great, you will score high for these secitons which will help you in overall score for writing.

Good Luck. If you appreciate it or have any questions, leave a comment. Thank you.

1.     Opinion

An 'opinion' question asks for your view, not the views of other people, and you don't have to give both sides of the argument. Just make your opinion clear in the introduction, then explain it in the rest of the essay.

2.     Discussion + opinion (For and Against or Advantages and Disadvantages)

A 'discussion' question requires you to write about both sides of the argument, and you should write a similar amount for each view. If the question also asks for your opinion, you don't need an extra paragraph. Just make it clear in the introduction and conclusion which of the two views you agree with

3.     Problem + solution

Type 3 is easy. Simply write a paragraph explaining the problem(s) and a paragraph explaining the solution(s). Some questions ask about 'causes' or 'effects': these would be part of the 'problem' paragraph.

If the young ones understand the importance of public places and know the consequences of damaging them, the result might deter them from committing such mistakes. 19. Hi Dylan

Did you ever came across situation like below, My test was last week and scored 68 for writing. However my enabling skills are Crammer 90, Spelling 18, Vocabulary 80 and written discourse 90. I am not sure which section pull me down to 68 for writing whereas all area except spelling seems ok. Do they reduce such mark for spelling or maybe it was a reduction for overall content? I pretty much like to improve but bit confuse at this point as my earlier attempt even with 20 point for spelling my writing score was 73. Any advise as I really aiming for 79 for writing and willing to practice as much as i can as I need it badly.

  23. Dear Dylang,

Hope you remember me, I did my 2nd attempt in PTE exam on 26th Nov, result which I got L62/R67/S67/W63, Grammar 86 / oral fluency 69/ pronunciation 60/ Spelling 21/ vocab 74/ written discourse 90.

I am not satisfied with the result since I was quite sure in Writing and Listening and also when I took the mock test (which I purchased on pearson practice website) I scored 81 in spelling whereas in this text it is showing just 21 since I very much remembered that I hardly did any mistakes in spelling also you can see my written discourse is 90/90. I was expecting minimum 65+ in each section only just 2-3 marks are less in Listening and Writing whereas I was quite confident specially about listening and writing that I would be able to score more then 70/90 in these sections after my extensive 6 months of preparation. Since for my Australia PR requirement is 65/90 in all four modules. I got total 62/90 which is feel is also PTE did wrong calculation.

I had a long emails exchanged with PTE customer support, but every time they just give standard answer of re scoring which costs USD125 here in india or re exam which is USD160.

Need your expertise advise, what I should do now. I need 65/90 in all 4 by Jan end 2016.

    Thanks & Regards
